Elena Meier-Scourtelli invited us to her costume rental in mainz. Wandering through her endless seeming rows of cloths and costumes, occasionally pulling out some pieces she starts talking about her life and how she came to be the Mainzer theaters' costume director for 21 years. Born 1938 in Greece she fled to Germany due to the harsh military regime. Staring off in Hamburg with tailoring haute couture she studied theater and embarked on her career in Kiel.

Nearly every piece in her collection of over 2000 costumes (not to forget nearly 1500 hats and shoes) is hand made with lovingly detail and produced to endure the rough conditions on stage.

With now 79 she seems to have never lost passion and dedication for her work. Still agile, still very organized and very straightforward she seems a lot younger.
